03 HEALTH

This course is designed for those students who are interested in Health related careers such as nursing, social work, and counselling. The course is largely focussed on critical analysis, a skill required in many academic based careers.  The assessment work is based around class discussion and independent research with two external exams at the end of the year.  Topics are dependent on student interest but may include :

 

 

  • The continued spread of HIV/ AIDs in Sub Saharan Africa
  • Issues relating to adolescent pregnancy or methamphetamine use in New Zealand
  • Contemporary and alternative health practices in New Zealand
  • Ethical dilemmas, for example; Access to Assisted Reproductive Technology, or exposure to sexually explicit materials in the visual media. 

 

Health is a University approved course, meaning that the 19 credits awarded in this course can be used for entrance into University.
