Manurewa High School's Music Department is proud of a reputation that has been earned by our participation in national and international events as well as consistent success in external examinations.
The Senior Concert Band received a GOLD AWARD at the 2008 KBB Auckland Secondary Schools Festival. The next overseas trip is in July 2009 to Brisbane.
Recently achieved awards include first placed in the Rockquest regional competition in 2006 and second place in the 2007 Smokefree Pacifica Beats regional finals. Our choir was selected for the National Big Sing Finale in Wellington in 2004. In the Auckland KBB Festival, 2006 and 2007, our Junior Concert Band achieved bronze awards; the Senior Concert Band was awarded silver awards for both years. We travelled to Hawaii in 2004, toured the South Island in 2006 and visited Northland in 2007. Every year we also celebrate the individual achievements of our students. These include an NCEA scholarship winner in 2006, and an APO composition winner in 2007. Several of our talented students were selected as participants with well known performers in 'Band of Strangers' in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In addition some of our pupils achieve distinction passes in ABRSM and Trinity examinations every year. Three students achieved grade 8 level.
