Visual Art

ARTS VISION
The arts are critical to an educational policy that is devoted to the teaching of basic academic skills and life-long learning capacities with the goal of truly preparing all students for success after high school regardless of gender, age, economic status, physical ability or learning ability. A systematic, substantive and sequential visual arts curriculum addresses and develops ways of thinking, questioning, expression and learning that complement learning in other core subjects—but which is unique in what it has to offer.

ART AT MHS
Year Nines take a compulsory core option of Art that happens over two terms.
It covers all basic elements and allows them to learn essential skills to feed into Year Ten and beyond.

The Year Ten program is an optional course that the students take for the full year. The program consists of 4 units of work each one run over a term.

Level One art offers Art Practical, Art Carving
and a combination course of Art design and photography

Level Two offers students the choice of Art Practical, Art Design or Photography and for 2010, Art Carving

Level Three allows students to continue with the same disciplines from level two; Art Pratical, Art Design and Photography

EVENTS
The Real Art Roadshow visited at the beginning of 2009 to allow students a chance to view art works
of contemporary New Zealand artists in a gallery type setting.

ART EXHIBITION
This year the exhibition was a great success with work from students and teachers on display. We had
an excellent turnout for the opening night and a large number of pieces were sold. Thank you to all those
that came through and supported this event.
